Hot Dogs, High Peaks, and the Gods of Iceland
Move over, Vikings—Cavvie has officially conquered the Land of Fire and Ice! My cruise through Iceland was a whirlwind of epic landscapes, sideways mist, and the best street food I’ve ever had. If you think I’m fluffy now, you should have seen me trying to stay warm in the Arctic breeze!
Waterfalls of the Gods & Volcanic Vibes
My journey kicked off in Akureyri, where I felt the ground literally shake at Goðafoss. They call it the "Waterfall of the Gods," and standing next to that thundering turquoise water, I felt like a very small, very damp deity myself. I followed the mist over to Lake Mývatn, a place so surreal and volcanic I half-expected a dragon to fly by. The Icelandic summer sun actually showed up for the party, making every single photo look like a postcard (no filter needed when the Earth is this dramatic!).
Hiking for Views in Ísafjörður
Next, the ship tucked into the charming little village of Ísafjörður. Now, you know I love a good lounge on the deck, but I decided to work up an appetite with a hike up a mountain trail. It was a bit of a scramble for a guy with my leg-to-fur ratio, but the bird’s-eye view of the tiny village nestled in the fjord was worth every single huff and puff. I felt like I was on top of the world—or at least on top of the North Atlantic!
Rainbows and "Best in Town" Bites
Finally, I hit the capital, Reykjavík. The weather turned a bit "authentic" (read: misty, grey, and chilled to my tiny bone), but a little fog won’t stop a determined blogger! I zipped to the top of the Hallgrímskirkja bell tower for a panoramic look at those famous colorful rooftops, then took a victory lap down Skólavörðustígur—the legendary Rainbow Street.
To warm up, I did what every savvy traveler does: I joined the queue at Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur. I’ve been dreaming of this hot dog since I left the pier! Tasting a recipe that’s been a local staple since 1937 was the ultimate way to end my journey. One "pylsur" with everything, please—including the crispy onions!
Iceland, you were chilly, thrilling, and delicious. My suitcase is full of wool, and my heart is full of fire!
